Are crossbows and muskets really that clumsy?\"\nOthers spoke in defense, pointing out that archers were already among the strongest and most elite soldiers, and sending the very best of them to the most dangerous front lines was only proper.\nYet all argument fell silent in the end, stilled by the accounts the bards had gathered from those who had witnessed it firsthand:\n\"He is the squad's keenest spear, slicing through every line.\"\n\"He is its strongest shield, turning back every assault...\"\nThat said, the bards usually skipped the second half of the knights' comments, since it was too mundane for a heroic tale:\n\"To be honest, Vice Captain Lohen probably just thought this would be the quickest way to get it done...\"\nYes, his story holds none of the glory and pageantry of chivalric tales, nor the sweeping drama and twists of heroic legends.\nSpears, hidden arrows, ambushes, poison, surprise attacks, infiltration...\nHe never debates which weapons or tactics are stronger, nor does he consider a fight in terms of glory, shame, or gain and loss.\nEvery method carries its own feel, but the pleasure it brings fades beside victory itself, and pales even more against the raw reality of life endured.\nOnly the last one standing has the right to ponder the meaning of victory. Only the last still feeling pain may speak of survival.\nFight. Win. Survive. Over and over, the cycle repeats...\nSuch is Lohen's story, such is the life he lives..."

"Context": "In Lohen's memory, the very first toy he ever had was a small, supple bow.\nHis father, always stern and serious, handpicked the finest fir wood and carved the bow, while his mother, precise and deliberate, cut the leather and kneaded it again and again to form the string.\nThough it was only a toy, his parents followed their usual bowmaking routine, completing it without a single lapse.\nAnd yet, his father did not teach him to draw the bow or set an arrow, despite Lohen's hopes.\nThe only thing he was allowed to do was imitate his parents: checking the limbs, oiling the lacquered surface, waxing the string. Over and over, day after day.\n\"Lohen, our ancestors once said: 'A bow is an instrument that demands consistency. For generations, our family has made a living crafting bows. Naturally, we must live like a bow, ensuring that every action we take aligns perfectly.'\"\nEvery morning, during their prayers, his parents repeated this lesson.\nTheir days followed steady routines, disciplined labor, and peaceful order.\nFor more than twenty years before Lohen was born, his parents had lived this way, and for more than a decade after his birth, not a single thing had ever disturbed it.\nFrom his first babbled words to the moment he could tend bows and arrows with practiced hands, Lohen sensed the course of his life already stretching before him. Perhaps he would follow it until age dimmed his eyes and the grain of the wood blurred beyond recognition, his days quietly consumed by steady, unchanging routine.\nBut arrows, no matter how carefully stored in the armory, are never meant to stay still. So too, Lohen's untamed nature could never be confined to the calm, orderly life.\nOnce again, little Lohen polished the arrowhead again, and in its shine, his eyes with a hidden crimson stared back at him.\nThe arrow lingered, poised for release...\nAnd that moment was already near.\nOn an ordinary day, Lohen sat in the cargo wagon as he always did, accompanying his father on the trip to Mondstadt to deliver an order.\nBut today, routine gave way to danger — a group of masked, skilled bandits had marked their cargo.\nHis father shoved Lohen hurriedly into the covered carriage, warning him not to move or make a sound. Then he shouted, trying either to draw the bandits away or to summon the Knights of Favonius from wherever they might be.\nThe wagon was filled with bows and bolts strong enough to pierce stone...\nHis father had the skill of a master archer honed over years of testing...\nAnd yet, the bandits subtly tried to coax him away...\nDespite it all, the long habit of a quiet, orderly life left him so flustered that he didn't question the situation — or think to fight back.\nThe clamor outside the wagon slowly died away, and before long, the curtain was drawn back — but the figures waiting beyond were neither his father, who had scattered the bandits, nor the knights sent to rescue him. Instead, a group of masked men in black robes stood before him.\nThey grabbed Lohen before he could react. Every kick and twist was useless against hands like iron.\nIn that moment, Lohen had no idea whose scheme he had been caught in, or where they were taking him.\nLittle Lohen sat quietly in the cramped, dark cell, simply pondering.\nHad his father stood against the bandits with his bow, none of this would have happened. And if he himself had been quicker and more alert, maybe he could have found a hiding spot before they got to him.\nFrom the next cell, the cries of the other abducted children grew louder. Seizing a brief moment when no one was watching, Lohen slipped a small arrowhead — one he had brought from the wagon — into his sleeve.\nPerhaps the Anemo Archon had heard the children's desperate cries, or perhaps some unseen force had answered Lohen's silent plea for strength.\nAs the villains hurried to move their captives, the agents of justice finally arrived.\nLeading the group was a single armored figure, bow in hand, striking with ease. The criminals fell before him.\nPerhaps to keep them alive for questioning, perhaps to avoid harming the children, he used nothing but blunt arrows in the fight.\nAnd yet, in his hands, even blunt arrows carried unstoppable force. Each vibration of the bowstring rang through the air, answered by the heavy thud of a body hitting the ground.\nThe arrows streaked through the air, fierce and radiant, holding little Lohen's gaze captive. Even his hands, poised to move, fell still.\nOnly when Adorno pulled back the curtain of the prison cart and looked at him did Lohen snap back to himself.\n\"If I were as strong as those arrows, these ropes would already be severed. And I wouldn't have had to hear that goof Theodore crying all that time...\"\nThat thought quietly took root in little Lohen's heart.\nBut what Adorno saw was something entirely different.\nAmong the cluster of crying children, one boy stood apart — his face cold, showing no trace of fear.\nAt his wrists, the tightly bound ropes had already been nicked, a subtle cut made by the arrowhead he had hidden.\n— Incredible, this boy is remarkable. I'll have to keep a close eye on him."

"Context": "Ever since Lohen was rescued, his family watched over him even more closely, fearful of losing him again. But an arrow drawn to the string can never settle back into a life of quiet dust.\nOn a moonlit night, while his parents slept, Lohen quietly slipped out the window. Into the shadows he carried a self-made shortbow, a small carving knife, and a handful of flawed arrows that hadn't passed inspection.\nPerhaps it was luck, or perhaps he was simply born for battle. When he returned, two hilichurl arrowheads lay in his pack as trophies from his encounter.\nAfter that, Lohen started venturing out at night more often. From once a week to every few days, until night after night he disappeared into the darkness. His targets grew stronger, and the spoils he returned with grew richer: shattered masks, ominous scrolls, and the horns of Mitachurls...\nGradually, a rumor began to ripple among adventurers. Near Dornman Port at midnight, they said, a small-framed archer could be seen, moving like the wind, slipping into packs of monsters and striking true with every arrow.\nVictory came again and again, but so did danger. Each encounter sent his heart racing, thrumming like a storm-swollen tide.\nSomewhere along the way, a question began to stir in his mind: if he faced those attackers again, would things be different? Or would he still be the helpless child, waiting for someone else to come to his rescue?\nNo matter how many dangers he braved, no matter how many arrows tore through their marks, the question lingered, growing heavier in his mind. It would never answer itself.\nOnly striking through that first target could.\n...\nWhen Lohen finally donned the adventurer's uniform and revealed the truth to his parents, their first reaction was stunned silence, followed quickly by a storm of outrage.\nIt was Master Cyrus, thumping his chest, who calmed the storm, assuring them that Lohen would be the one to bully the monsters, not the other way around. Only then did they begrudgingly accept what could not be undone.\n...Perhaps what they came to accept wasn't Lohen's skill as a top-tier adventurer, but the simple truth that he would never again be the obedient child they once knew.\nEven so, they couldn't bring themselves to give up. For years, they tried to persuade him to stop putting himself in danger, even seeking out Adorno, the veteran knight who had once rescued Lohen, hoping he might be able to talk some sense into the boy.\n\"Once an arrow is drawn, it cannot be recalled. As bowmakers, you should understand that,\" Adorno said, as if he had long foreseen Lohen's choice. \"...But we can still guide it before it leaves the string, point it in the right direction. That is my advice, as an archer.\"\nAdorno agreed to speak on their behalf. Lohen's parents never learned the details, but in the months that followed, he seemed to settle down noticeably... supposedly \"preparing for exams.\"\nSeveral months later, Lohen suddenly appeared at the Knights of Favonius' selection trials and, displaying overwhelming skill, claimed first place. Though some questioned his methods, he ultimately succeeded in joining their ranks.\nWell, it wasn't so bad. At least within the Knights, he had a proper position and comrades to watch his back. Far better than wandering alone as an adventurer.\nBesides, just a few months earlier, Lohen had already grown bored of the Adventurers' Guild commissions and was thinking of leaving Mondstadt in search of far more dangerous prey.\nHis parents comforted each other, but the question of what Adorno had said to make him join the Knights lingered in their minds, leaving them more puzzled the longer they thought about it.\n...\n\"...Kid, we've traced who was behind those old kidnappings.\"\nLohen, who had barely paid attention to yet another mediator, suddenly fixed him with a sharp look. \"Who was it?\"\n\"We'll be issuing an official notice soon, but there's no point in dwelling on revenge,\" Adorno said calmly. \"He's already dead.\"\nAfter a long pause, Lohen spoke again. \"Who killed him?\"\n\"Suicide.\" \"That kind of person doesn't just kill himself. You know what I'm really asking — who drove him to that point?\"\nAdorno let out a faint smile. \"Our Grand Master, the Knight of Boreas... Mondstadt's living legend. Think that makes a worthy new target for you?\""

"Context": "Varka was well accustomed to \"copycats.\"\nHot-blooded youths chasing after the shadow of a great hero were nothing unusual. Among them, a few overconfident, highly driven troublemakers were to be expected.\nBut someone like Lohen... that was entirely new.\nIn the past, the most audacious acts of such copycats were little more than surprise attacks, usually intended to prove their own strength. Lohen's debut, however, could only be described as \"utterly unrestrained.\"\nHidden arrows, smoke screens, traps, even sedatives capable of bringing monsters down instantly... His techniques were polished to near perfection. They had the precision of a veteran hardened by countless battles, and faintly, they carried echoes of the remnants of Eroch's faction.\n\"Not bad, kid. You've got some skill! But... those little tricks won't work on me!\"\nIn an instant, the \"young boy\" was under Varka's firm control.\n\"The child who faced a kidnapping without panic, perhaps even capable of escaping on his own.\"\n\"The small archer whispered about in rumors, striking with ruthless precision around Dornman Port.\"\n\"The hotheaded recruit who, barely enlisted, had already begun hunting down the remnants of Eroch's faction.\"\nVarka had heard plenty of stories about Lohen from Adorno. He decided to let this little stunt continue a while longer, curious to see exactly what the boy was truly made of.\nUnder the oppressive shadow of the twin greatswords — blades that could still monsters mid-step — what expression would this novice wear?\nAwe? Panic? Or something else entirely?\nVarka held Lohen's eyes. Icy and increasingly piercing, they carried a spark of exhilaration — and perhaps a reflection of the drive to face the strongest and claim glory that Varka could still feel in himself.\nPromising, yes, but rough and reckless. He needed to take a few hits to understand his limits. Varka acted, subdued the daring newcomer, and decided a few days of confinement would do him good. \"Not happy with that? Step up again whenever you like. I'll be keeping an eye on you.\"\n\"Guess you'll just have to wait and see.\" Lohen shrugged and smiled faintly as they kept him inside.\nThe day after his confinement ended, Lohen showed up at Varka's door with a bottle of Varka's favorite wine, saying it was his way of apologizing.\n\"Oh? Not bad. You even brought my favorite, Dandelion Wine. Alright, I'll take it.\"\nThe sharp, bitter liquor barely touched his throat before the Grand Master felt a sudden flicker of dizziness — something was off. Adorno's words after Lohen's confinement came back to him:\n\"Honestly, I wouldn't treat him like your younger self, or just another Mondstadt kid who admires you. Sure, he respects your strength. But if I had to guess, what he's really after is a way to challenge you.\"\n\"If I'm right, here's what's going through his head: finding a way to test 'the mighty Varka' must be fun in itself. Winning or losing hardly matters. Worst case, he's flat on his back for a couple days. Glory? Don't think that's on his mind at all.\"\nWith nothing but sheer strength and iron will, Varka righted himself, defying the dizziness as Lohen watched, wide-eyed.\n\"...Unbelievable. By my reckoning, that dose could've taken down a dozen forest boars...\"\n\"Kid... I told you, little tricks like that won't work on me!\"\nFrom that moment on, Lohen saw \"strength\" in a whole new light —\nIt was the kind that no trap or poison could shake, forged through countless near-death moments and grounded in absolute certainty.\nFrom that moment, two new goals went straight onto Lohen's list:\nFirst, to take down Varka by any means necessary.\nSecond, to try out those same tricks on himself — and make sure he could never be knocked down."

"Context": "The Knights of Favonius are an order with a long and storied history, one that has seen countless heroes rise and endured just as many tragedies.\nFrom these legends and hard-won lessons, the Knights have learned a simple truth:\nStray from the path of knighthood, and tragedy will follow.\nIt was for this very reason that doubts began to circulate within the order over Lohen's appointment as Vice Captain of the 5th Company.\nAfter all, a \"madman\" who thrived on stirring up trouble, ambushing the Grand Master, and relying on poison and traps in battle hardly seemed like the sort to embody the ideals of knighthood in the eyes of most.\nLohen, for his part, paid the whispers no mind.\n\"I know you probably don't worry much about others' feelings. Still, an expedition isn't a one-person job. If no one's backing you, it's obvious your application won't go through unscathed.\"\nAdorno paused, as if unsure whether Lohen could handle the situation, or worried that he might make things worse.\nEver since Varka announced the unprecedented grand expedition, Lohen had been itching to join.\nFar-off battlefields and unseen dangers thrilled him far more than any toy. But joining the expedition proved a different kind of challenge. Assessment lists came and went, and his name never appeared.\nAdorno knew Lohen could handle anything on the battlefield. This, he suspected, was a problem somewhere off the field.\nLohen, entirely unconcerned, replied, \"Fine. If an 'unorthodox' knight like me can't take the test... then I'll just take the examiner's seat instead.\"\n...\n\"From a practical standpoint, it's not a bad idea. It could also remind the knights of their own shortcomings and quiet those who are always questioning whether the order needs to change... After all, we can't expect every opponent to play by the rules of chivalry.\"\nAs he flipped through Lohen's rather unconventional \"application,\" Varka considered it carefully.\nThe report laid out a long list of \"tests.\" The usual night raids, traps, and poisons hardly surprised Varka anymore, but these new methods caught his attention. Ambushes in disguise, sabotage of supplies before exercises, and other clever tactics were among the innovations included.\nAt the very end of the report, Lohen casually dropped in a so-called \"famous quote,\" and Varka nearly spat out his drink.\n\"If the Knights of Favonius can't even protect themselves, how can they protect Mondstadt?\" — Quoted from the previous Grand Master, on the night he was ambushed.\n...Youthful missteps never failed to catch someone off guard. After a moment to collect himself, Varka stamped the application with his approval.\nUnconventional knights require unconventional tests.\nBoth for the expedition-bound, and for Lohen himself."

"Context": "Though he is the most likely to inherit the title of \"Benevolent Knight,\" Lohen is perhaps the least like one in all of the Knights of Favonius.\nWhere most imagine a \"Benevolent Knight\" saving people from danger, pulling them back from the brink, Lohen seems far more interested in diving headfirst into peril himself — and taking others with him for the ride. Naturally, those \"others\" are usually his enemies... and not always human.\nStill, Lohen's unusual \"hobbies\" weren't without their benefits. When it came to special operations and high-risk missions, he consistently performed far beyond what most expected.\nAs a result, many of the expedition's covert assignments naturally fell to him.\nOne of these was a confidential request from the current head of the Northern Intelligence Network.\nIntelligence reports indicated that an underground auction house was taking advantage of the current chaos to operate in Nod-Krai. They trafficked in both smuggled goods and dangerous items, moving with extreme caution and almost certainly relying on powerful backing. Taking them out would be a clear way to earn the trust of the Northern Intelligence Network.\n\"Our confidence in your capabilities is without question. Nevertheless, in environments where the code of chivalry does not apply, strength alone cannot be taken as a measure of overall effectiveness.\"\nTo address the Northern Intelligence Network's concerns, the expeditionary force put together a cautious, step-by-step plan.\nLohen's task was to quietly apprehend isolated individuals and extract the time and location of the auction. From there, the team would rely on surveillance, eavesdropping, and systematic tracking to identify everyone involved while keeping risks as low as possible.\nIt was a mission made for Lohen — moving alone, executing each capture with precision, and hitting the heart of it all. Challenging, silent, and exactly suited to him.\nOnly one detail had escaped Nannina. For Lohen, a plan that was too quiet rarely meant it was complete.\nBefore he set out, Nannina passed along a reminder from Cardinal Seamus. \"Focus on the mission. Don't complicate things.\"\nLohen answered simply, without a trace of hesitation. \"Don't worry. I get it.\"\nAnd he clearly did.\nAt least in his own mind, the mission had never been about anything else. From start to finish, there was only one purpose: to show the Northern Intelligence Network the full strength of the Knights of Favonius.\n...\nA few days later, in the Grand Master's office in Mondstadt.\nAfter reading the report returned by the expeditionary force, Acting Grand Master Jean set her pen to paper and began drafting her reply to Varka.\n\"Regarding the operation involving the underground auction, I am now fully informed.\n\"Lohen's judgment in the field remains as sharp and decisive as ever. He secured all attendees on site, prevented the conflict from reaching Nasha Town, and ensured that no civilians were harmed. By the outcome alone, this operation stands as a true act of protection, fully in keeping with the ideals of benevolence.\n\"Judged by merit, I agree with your assessment. He has now reached the point where he could inherit Mr. Adorno's mantle. His actions were measured and deliberate... at least until he reached the heart of the enemy stronghold.\n\"That said, forgive my frankness. To appear at the enemy's center, to pick a fight on his own initiative, to break out single-handedly, and to display his spoils as a statement of strength — these are hardly in line with the usual conduct of the Knights of Favonius.\n\"If you have the chance, I would ask that you make this clear to the relevant contacts within the Northern Intelligence Network.\""

"Context": "Mika always carries his Multipurpose Front-Line Surveying Device with him, keeping it meticulously organized.\nIt records detailed terrain, key locations, and standard marching routes, and is occasionally updated with traces of monster activity or assessments of hazardous areas.\nIntelligence forms the backbone of any campaign. Yet some knights are drawn not just to the information itself, but to the instruments that gather it.\nLohen was one of them.\n\"That's a complicated piece of equipment, and you handle it like it's nothing?\" After finishing his usual check of the enemy positions, Lohen suddenly threw out a compliment. \"Really impressive.\"\nHearing such praise from a senior so close to his own age, whose reputation was otherwise so different from his own, left Mika momentarily flustered, but pleasantly surprised.\nLohen, clearly intrigued, fired off a string of questions. Mika, who rarely talked about his surveying device with anyone outside the technical team, found himself drawn into the conversation before he even realized it.\n\"So, with a device this efficient, you must know quite a few spots where enemies tend to gather, right?\" \"And how do you usually maintain it? Do you keep spare parts on hand?\"\n...Perhaps this \"notorious\" senior wasn't quite as intimidating as the rumors made him out to be.\nMika answered every question with eagerness and thoroughness. Lohen narrowed his eyes and nodded, quietly noting what caught his interest and letting the rest slip by.\nAfter a few rounds of questioning, Mika started to notice a pattern. Any area that had caught Lohen's attention seemed to settle down within just a few days.\nLooking at the fresh cuts that kept showing up on Lohen and thinking about his sudden, short disappearances, Mika could no longer write it off as coincidence. A cold realization sank in — his survey maps were being used by Lohen in an alarmingly \"efficient\" way.\nOut of caution, Mika began leaving out certain monster gathering points unrelated to Lohen's operations when handing over his maps. And when Lohen pressed him for details, he grew increasingly evasive.\n\"Uh... I've already reported everything!\" \"I... I think it's best to let the Grand Master give the orders!\"\nYet Lohen didn't push further. He just let a knowing smile play across his lips, his eyes wandering toward the surveying device Mika hugged to his chest, seemingly without thought.\nFrom that day on, Mika handled the surveying device with extra care. He made sure the notebook was tucked safely before leaving his seat. When passing materials to others, he checked the pages over and over. Even after putting some distance between himself and the desk, he found himself glancing back, as if someone might be watching the booklet from behind.\nAnd yet, despite everything, Lohen's movements remained unhindered, as if he already knew every secret Mika was trying to keep from him. It was almost like magic.\nMika had been scratching his head over it for a while, and it wasn't until one of the expeditionary force's campfire nights that it finally made sense.\nThat night, Ekbert had been eager to show off a new Fontaine magic trick to liven things up, but he'd clearly had a bit too much to drink and, unsurprisingly, things went sideways.\nHe had imagined a spectacular \"switch of deception,\" but two nearly identical cards ended up flashing into view long before he was ready.\nThe idea was simple enough: swap the chosen card with a disguised fake, hold everyone's gaze on the decoy, and in that sliver of a moment, work your magic on the real card. Sadly, the trick was over almost as soon as it began.\nAmid the laughter spilling across the campfire, Mika's mind wandered back to a question Lohen had asked him long ago.\n\"...How do you usually maintain it? Do you keep spare parts on hand?\"\nAnd suddenly, the past started to make sense in small, unsettling fragments: spare parts that had quietly vanished from the stock, book pages that wouldn't cooperate every now and then...\nCould someone really start plotting tricks on a colleague right after meeting them?\nCould anyone wear a mask of friendliness and curiosity while secretly hatching a sneaky scheme?\nAnd surely no one could, in the blink of an eye, swap out his surveying device with a phony one, copy the intelligence, and then boldly return everything as if nothing had happened... right?\nAmid the lingering unease, Mika suddenly felt a sharp awareness, like a predator's gaze had fixed on him. He lifted his eyes quickly, and yet Lohen was just there, laughing with the crowd, his attention seemingly on no one in particular.\nThe laughter was bright and genuine, unforced... the same warmth Mika remembered from the first time Lohen had approached him with eager curiosity, without a hint of pretense."

"Context": "Lohen had long pondered what it took to reach the strength of a captain.\nNaturally, a captain needed to face powerful monsters head-on and handle even overwhelming waves of foes alone.\nTo balance destructive force with lasting stamina — Varka embodied it, and it seemed the youngest captain in the history of the Knights of Favonius did, too.\nFor the Fifth Company, which relied on ranged weapons, that kind of balance was tricky.\nGreater power meant a stronger bow, a heavier draw, and larger, more penetrating arrows.\nYet even Lohen could carry only a handful of such heavy ammunition. Once it was spent, a retreat to the rear for resupply was unavoidable — hardly ideal for sustained combat.\nNot to mention, Lohen had never cared for falling back. The real fight, the one he sought, was always at the very front, facing the enemy head-on.\nSo, was there a way to have both? Lohen let the thought settle.\n\"Perhaps... it's not entirely impossible.\"\nHis gaze drifted to the knights preparing for the drill inspection. Bundles of ceremonial lances caught the light, like enormous arrows ready to be carried into action.\n\"Maybe... an arrow I could retrieve after firing?\"\n\"Or... maybe it doesn't even need to be fired.\"\n\"After all, getting in close might pack even more punch. And the pain could hit that much harder too.\"\n...\nA little over ten days passed before the next scheduled drill. Everything seemed the same at first, but somewhere in the midst of the ranged ranks, a single spear had appeared.\nThe spear lunged forward with such speed that its wielder quickly found himself surrounded on all sides.\n\"Grand Master, are you certain you still want him as the Fifth Company's vice captain?\" Observing the drill from off the field, Cardinal Seamus spoke up with a question.\n\"Mm? Come on, look at him with the rest of the ranged squad. Isn't he fitting right in?\"\n\"Fitting in? Honestly, all I see is a bullseye painted on him. Every enemy in range, and half our own archers too, are zeroing in on that one target.\"\n\"Haha! Relax! Look, the ranged squad's strikes are way sharper now! And he's still on his feet, isn't he? That alone proves this plan isn't half bad!\"\nNot half bad!? Seamus almost barked a protest, but the brilliance of their results left him speechless.\n...\nThat day, everyone got what they wanted — or at least, something close enough.\nThe Fifth Company got a vice captain. The expeditionary force got a \"Frontline Suppression Officer.\" Seamus, ever overworked, earned himself a day of what he insisted on calling \"special headache leave.\" Varka walked away with a brand-new \"Seamus joke\" to season his drinks.\nAnd Lohen, well, he walked off with a new way of fighting, a new way of living, and a \"glass marble\" that sometimes proved surprisingly useful on missions."
